Memories and Space

This video was done for a Visual Anthropology Production Class. My Grandmother kept well organized and meticulously labeled family albums. Over the years we heard many stories about the people and occasions captured by the images as we looked through the albums. For this one-minute piece, I decided to respond to one of the photographs from her album. I went to the location it was taken to walk around and photograph the space as it is now. While exploring, I was moved by the thought that public spaces have so many memories for so many people. I included an interview with my grandmother’s voice into the piece almost as an echo of a different time- a memory that took place in the very space I was standing.

This video, created for the reggae singer Verse iTal, consists of many still photographs, some strung together to give the appearance of motion.
