Friday Night Painting: My Studio Playlist
Updated: Sep 12
Painting on a Friday night, music playing, dancing and singing out loud. I had to be home tonight, so since I couldn't be out on the town, I filled my time with activities I enjoy – painting and listening to music!
I worked on two pieces. I finished the one I started last week and started a new one. Above is a video of me working on the first one, and below I've included a playlist of what I was listening to while working.
I selected what Apple Music calls "Ariann's Station." It basically mixes music from your own selections, songs similar to what you listen to, and random new songs you've never played. It's usually spot on, and most times it selects tunes within the vibe I'm in.
This particular selection featured a more random mix. It started upbeat and then went into slow, mostly love songs. Out of the 13 songs that played while I painted the first piece, there was only one I wasn't feeling — that was number 4 on the list. While I like the artist The Weeknd, I didn't know the song or enjoy it. I giggled a lot when "Govinda" by Jahnavi Harrison came on. This song is a joyful, upbeat kirtan which calls out for the heart to be absorbed in love and service to the Divine. It was over 10 minutes long too. While I like this song and artist, it was just a random pick compared to the rest of the list. Hopefully the blessings it calls for helped my hands as I swiped the different acrylic colours across the paper.
The mix ended strong though, with Bryan Adams' "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?" — perfect song for me to belt out as I finished up. The list is below! Which ones will you keep on your list, and which ones have to go?
Fete Land — Kerwin Du Bois & Kes
My Turn — Shenseea & Valiant
Redemption Song — Bob Marley
Acquainted — The Weeknd
Surrender — Natalie Taylor

First Love — Adele
My Future — Billie Eilish
