Wellness Wednesdays: 7-Minute Vagus Nerve Reset

1 min read

This week’s practice is a 7-minute vagus nerve reset using gentle self-massage, designed to help your nervous system shift into a calmer state.

The vagus nerve is the long “wandering” nerve that runs through the whole body, and stimulating it signals to your nervous system that it’s safe to relax. You do this one seated, starting with light tapping and sliding across the forehead and temples. From there you massage the jaw, stretch and rub the ears, and move down the neck, shoulders and arms, finishing with a squeeze of each finger and a pause between sides to notice the difference.

Led by Anna Viktoria of Yin and Restore, it needs no mat or props, so it’s easy to fit into a work break or the end of your day. The jaw massage felt especially great, and afterwards I felt calm, centered and awake, with a nice stimulating heat in the areas that were worked on. Simple, soothing and something you can return to anytime you need a reset.

Did you feel a difference after the practice? Let me know in the comments!
